India are expected to throw in new faces for the rest of the series as the selectors attempt to build a strong base for the 2011 World Cup

Pitch and conditions

The Barabati Stadium hosted day-night games during last month’s Challenger Trophy. With the pitches on the slower side there were not many big scores, and teams were dismissed four times in eight innings. No rain is expected on Wednesday, but dew could play a factor during the chase. The curator, Pankaj Patnaik, felt the team winning the toss would bat. “The pitch is looking good, it’s compact,” he told the Indian Express. “It’s a sporting wicket, and the bowlers will get good bounce here. But at the end of the day, it’s a one-day match and the pitch will be batsman-friendly.”

Team news

England need to settle on their combination at the top of the order. Matt Prior has been totally down, with Ravi Bopara the man to pair with Ian Bell.  Also worrying is the form of James Anderson, who has one wicket in England’s last eight completed games, and has not kept the runs down against India, conceding 158 runs off 25 overs. Steve Harmison is likely to replace him although he, too, was expensive in the first two ODIs,

England (probable) 1 Ravi Bopara, 2 Ian Bell, 3 Owais Shah, 4 Kevin Pietersen (capt), 5 Paul Collingwood, 6 Andrew Flintoff, 7 Samit Patel, 8 Matt Prior (wk), 9 Stuart Broad, 10 Graeme Swann, 11 Steve Harmison.

After the Bangalore match, Dhoni said the unused players would be tried in the remaining games. Dhoni himself could do with a break, but there is no other keeper in the squad, though Thursday’s selection meeting for the last two ODIs could redress that. Virat Kohli, Irfan Pathan and Pragyan Ojha will be hoping to get a chance in Cuttack.

India (probable) 1 Virender Sehwag, 2 Sachin Tendulkar, 3 Gautam Gambhir, 4 Yuvraj Singh, 5 Suresh Raina, 6 Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt & wk), 7 Yusuf Pathan, 8 Harbhajan Singh, 9 Zaheer Khan/Irfan Pathan, 10 Ishant Sharma, 11 Munaf Patel. Continue Reading »

CARE assigns `A+` rating to Karnataka Bank

Published by parasshuram under News Edit This

CARE has assigned A+ rating to the proposed Rs 2 billion Tier II Subordinated Bond issue of Karnataka Bank (KBL). The bonds would be redeemed at par at the end of 10 years from the date of allotment. Also, CARE has retained the A+ rating assigned to the outstanding Tier II Subordinated Bond issue of Rs 1.5 billion of KBL. Instruments with this rating are considered to offer adequate safety for timely servicing of debt obligations and carry low credit risk.

The ratings factor in KBL`s long standing track record, good profitably parameters, comfortable capital adequacy marked by high Tier I capital and good technology orientation characterised by 100% Core Banking Solution (CBS) implementation. The ratings are constrained by relatively small size of the bank, strong regional orientation, high deposit cost partly attributable to the low proportion of low cost deposits (LCDs), higher NPA additions & increase in restructuring of standard assets in the recent past and challenging operating conditions characterised by increasing interest rate environment, decline in credit growth & pressure on spreads. source

Pak will not use N-weapons first against India: Zardari

Published by parasshuram under POLITICS Edit This

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday declared that his country will not be the first to use nuclear weapons against India and would work towards
opening trade, besides underscoring that Kashmir belonged to the Kashmiri people.

and added that Pakistan does not feel threatened by India and they should also not feel threatened by Islamabad. Addressing a conference in Delhi via satellite, Zardari said that he was against nuclear warfare altogether.

“We do not hope to even get to that position when we have to use (nuclear weapons),” he said and proposed a South Asia free of nuclear weapons.

Seeking to reach out to people across the border, he recalled his late wife Benazir Bhutto’s lines — “there is little of Indian in every Pakistani and a little of Pakistani in every Indian.” Zardari also favoured India and Pakistan rising as an “economic block” like greater Europe.
