Pitch and conditions

The Barabati Stadium hosted day-night games during last month’s Challenger Trophy. With the pitches on the slower side there were not many big scores, and teams were dismissed four times in eight innings. No rain is expected on Wednesday, but dew could play a factor during the chase. The curator, Pankaj Patnaik, felt the team winning the toss would bat. “The pitch is looking good, it’s compact,” he told the Indian Express. “It’s a sporting wicket, and the bowlers will get good bounce here. The International Film Festival of India kick started in Goa with actress star Rekha inaugurating the event. The film festival promises a slew of film screenings with Bollywood stars in show.

India’s most prestigious International Film Festival saw a grand opening in Goa with evergreen actress Rekha inaugurating the ceremony. Nearly 225 films from across the globe will be screened during the next 10 days. Rekha says, “It’s a great pleasure and honor to do this. Thank you for choosing me to do this.” Amrita Rao played host and many other india film stars made appearances on opening night.

Director of IFFI S M Khan says, “Randhir kapoor, Akbar Khan, Gul Panag, Sanjay Khan, Manisha Koirala, Naseeruddin Shah, Kabir Bedi, Mithun Chakrobarty, Kamal Haasan, Tapan Sinha will be there to receive an award, Feroz khan.” The Goa festival opens with Peter Chan’s The Warlords a Chinese war epic set in the 1860s. Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday declared that his country will not be the first to use nuclear weapons against India and would work towards
opening trade, besides underscoring that Kashmir belonged to the Kashmiri people.

and added that Pakistan does not feel threatened by India and they should also not feel threatened by Islamabad. Addressing a conference in Delhi via satellite, Zardari said that he was against nuclear warfare altogether.

“We do not hope to even get to that position when we have to use (nuclear weapons),” he said and proposed a South Asia free of nuclear weapons.

Seeking to reach out to people across the border, he recalled his late wife Benazir Bhutto’s lines — “there is little of Indian in every Pakistani and a little of Pakistani in every Indian.” Zardari also favoured India and Pakistan rising as an “economic block” like greater Europe.

India clinched the series against England with a 19-run victory in the rain-hit fourth one-day match here on Sunday despite an explosive 72 from Owais Shah. The tourists finished at 178-8 in the day-night match after their target was revised to a stiff 198 off 22 overs under the Duckworth-Lewis method. They now trail 4-0 in the seven-match series.
